Burkina Faso has taken another step towards improving access to healthcare for all its citizens.
On Thursday 25 July 2024, while officially handing over the keys to the Burkina Faso Minister of Health and Public Hygiene, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, President of Faso, inaugurated 15 new mobile clinics designed by Toutenkamion, intended to be deployed in rural areas, villages and the outskirts of towns.
These 15 mobile healthcare units for public health establishments are equipped to provide specialised care such as mammography and ultrasound. In other words, they will enable early screening for breast and cervical cancer.
The aim is to bring healthcare closer to the most vulnerable populations. These mobile clinics will be in every region of Burkina Faso, and that's the vision (...) to be able to offer quality care to Burkina Faso people wherever they are.
- Captain Ibrahim Traoré -
This initiative aims to reduce inequalities in healthcare access by bringing services closer to the people. It demonstrates the government's commitment to pursuing ambitious projects in order to improve the well-being and quality of life of all Burkina Faso's citizens.
Ergonomic and functional mobile mammography clinics
These clinics on wheels have been specially designed to provide high-quality medical consultations as close as possible to the local population, whatever the climatic and environmental conditions in the remote regions of Burkina Faso. Their interior fittings have been designed to guarantee efficiency, functionality and comfort for both patients and medical staff.
The entrance of the mobile clinics opens onto a secretariat with a desk and chairs. This reception area immediately puts patients at ease, allowing them to receive medical care in the best possible conditions. Next door, a toilet, washbasin and shower ensure hygiene and cleanliness. Accessible from the entrance are the mammography room on the right and the gynaecology practice on the left.
Robust, reliable and durable, these mobile mammography units make health consultations and screenings more accessible, all in a safe, soothing and comfortable environment.
A mammography room in a truck
The centrepiece of these mobile units is the mammography room on the right of the entrance. Fully equipped with mammography equipment, it is used for early detection of breast cancer. There are also a changing room, where patients can change in complete privacy before their examination, a laser printer for printing the images, a couch for additional examinations and a set of storage above the couch for compression pads and other medical equipment.
A gynaecology practice in a truck
Opposite the mammography room, on the left-hand side of the entrance, the gynaecology room has everything needed for comprehensive gynaecological care, including a desk, a comfortable gynaecology chair for the patient, a washbasin with hot and cold water taps and a soap dispenser, as well as the equipment required for ultrasound. Pregnant women can therefore benefit from regular monitoring during their pregnancy.
🌟 Review of Mobile Clinics in Burkina Faso: a tangible impact 🌟
On 21 August 2025, Burkina Faso's Minister of Health presented the results of screening activities carried out by 15 mobile clinics deployed across the country.
After only eight months of use, the results are obvious:
✅ Nearly 2,000,000 women educated about breast self-examination
✅ Over 2,000,000 cervical screenings carried out
✅ Over 15,000 mammograms performed
These figures demonstrate the importance of outreach in public health: free, direct and equitable access to screening, even in the most remote areas.
We are proud to have participated alongside FSE Group and ARCOA in this project, which proves that mobility helps save lives 💪
