Lung cancer in numbers
- 38,000 deaths in France per year
- 52,000 new cases diagnosed per year
- 3rd most common cancer
- 1 cancer in 10 due to tobacco
Lung cancer is often detected at an advanced stage, making its treatment complex and costly.
Committed to the fight against cancer and smoking, the Hospices Civils de Lyon, with the support of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region and the Agence Régionale de Santé, have ordered a medical imaging truck. This vehicle is the first respiratory health assessment truck in France.
An innovative response: a truck for early cancer screening
- Main objective: reduce inequalities in access to care by reaching remote populations from the healthcare system.
- Means used: a medical truck dedicated to lung cancer screening.
- Identified problem: low participation in screening, particularly among socially vulnerable populations.
- Target audience: people aged 50 to 74 years, smokers or having smoked for more than 20 years.
- Annual goal: to screen approximately 2,000 people per year.
A pneumology truck designed and manufactured by our teams Toutenkamion
This semi-trailer designed and fitted out like a traditional radiology office posed a real technical challenge for the teams: to integrate five distinct, ergonomic, and comfortable spaces into a 13.5m semi-trailer.
The scanner room
It benefits from an extension to increase its capacity and improve the patient reception. A luminous ceiling and variable lighting enhance the patient experience and make the environment more pleasant. Finally, a large decoration adorns one of the walls of the room.
The manipulator room
Functional, optimized, and well-designed, this small room allows the radio operator to monitor the patient through a large window while being protected from x-rays thanks to the leaded partition.
The reception
A platform stair and lift for people with reduced mobility (separate from the staircase) allow direct access to the reception and then to all areas of the unit.
The tobacco office
This room enables to have a discussion with a tobacco specialist. Optimized, it is equipped (like the rest of the rooms in the mobile unit) with reversible air conditioning and a double-glazed projecting window with an integrated Venetian blind to make the consultation pleasant.
The doctor's office
The doctor's office is very bright thanks to its two large windows. Equipped with a desk, an examination chair, a water point, storage, and even a refrigerator to keep samples, it is intended to take a medical assessment with the doctor: spirometry (test to measure lung function), blood tests, and identification of biomarkers for lung cancer...
